Spottswoode 2002 Cab: Just wait

Alright, temptation had the best of me last night. There is something about knowing I have 12 bottles of a specific wine that lets curiousity get the best of me. Last night we opened a 2002 Spottswoode Napa Valley estate grown Cab. I'd love to sum it up in a word like Yum - but we were not wowed by this wine. While ripe and sweet, it was a bit oaky. There was a complexity hiding under the concentrated powerful full-body but but I couldn't tell if the tanins would stand up 10 years from now. Maybe 5 years more in the cellar and we'll see if the flavors will integrate and the tanins hold up. My wife was quick to point out, while I was expressing my disappointment in being impatient, that we did just had a really nice, mature Super Tuscan with dinner and that this Cab shouldn't be knocked for being young.
