2004 Santa Rita Hills Pinots

Three Solid Pintos from SRH

This week we pulled three different wines all from Santa Rita Hills all 2004 and all memorable.

Ken Brown

Sanford

Siduri

All three wines where not vineyard specific designations but SRH AVA.  The quick and dirty ranking was Ken Brown #1, Siduri #2, and Sanford #3. The Sanford and Siduri both started off strong in the mouth then faded a bit more than we had expected leaving me thinking them less balanced than the Ken Brown.

All the wines were in the range of 30-40$ and as I recall the Ken Brown was the most expensive of the lot but well worth the few dollars difference.

SRH is said to be unique as its Mt. range runs west-east starting at the Pacific Ocean (near Santa Barbara) allowing the fog to roll-in, making it an ideal climate for Pinot.  I'll be seeking more SRH 04 Pinots and tracking down some Syrah too.  All solid.  I looking foward to drinking them again in about  5 years.
