Removing ATT International Data Plan

Last month we went on vacation out of the country so we added the international data plan to our our iPhone accounts with ATT (thank you TechCrunch for the tip). All went well until I tried to deactivate the service two weeks later.  ATT said that I had to wait ‘at least two billing cycles’ before I could deactivate the service. Normally that wouldn’t be such a big deal but this plan has a monthly service charge.

This is a classic example of passing along an internal 3rd party billing/reconciliation IT systems problem to the customer. In this case me.  Can ATT not figure out the date math needed to charge or credit accounts after the international partners pass along the usage data?  This is really ridiculous.

    hi,
i read your post and feel the same way about AT&T. I’ve been planning a trip out of the country and am wondering if you could email me some tips on the iPhone data roaming deal. When I called them, they never said anything about the two billing cycles, which scares me. Please get in touch with me.
    -thank you very much.

  2. Tommy, I’m not certain if they have changed the billing processes or not. My advise would be to call and ask specifically about canceling the data plan – that and/or don’t use it if you are indeed taking a vacation. I found plenty of wifi while on the islands. *smiles
